'It’s been a whirlwind time in the best possible way. Just wanted to pass on from both me and Rory a huge thank you for organising our wedding on Wednesday it really was the best day of our lives. So thank you again for making it possible.'

We decided to get married abroad as we love a holiday and it was a great excuse to bring together our friends and family. Plus its cheaper than a UK wedding ha! We live in the lake district and weddings here are sooo expensive, we though going abroad with a smaller number and looking after them would be best for us, plus from speaking with people they all told us weddings abroad are much more chilled and just hit differently, which now I can confirm they are and do.
We both love Greece, the food is amazing and people are very welcoming, we have visited other Greek islands and enjoyed them all, I just think Crete has the best food so we settled on Crete!
We invited roughly 60 and we had 44 attend, we always knew not everyone would be able to attend with other commitments such as work and finances but were just grateful our close friends and family joined us.
Pronovias from Fellside Brides in Kendal, believe it or not this was the first shop and dress I tried on.
Shoes – Charlotte Mills
Earrings – Lilly & Co
Bracelet – from my mam (my something borrowed)
Hair piece – Everly Bridal London
Purchased from Moss
Monsoon, just via the internet, they were a sage green multiway dresses, we choose this due to different sizes/shapes of bridesmaids, however in the end the bridesmaids all wore the dresses in the same style.
Rustic vibes/ Greece theme, to suit the venue, lavender and gypsophila, natural looking, rather than over the top flowers, I think the bare tables with no table cloths worked well to as this is how they have it when it is normally a restaurant.
We took a wicker basket for cards which transported great with other smaller items inside as they weren’t too heavy, we took wooden table numbers and printed food menus and welcome sign with table layout on the other side. FYI this sign was aluminium printed at a local printers – Mike Taylor Printing Maryport, we had 4 foamboards delivered prior each arrived to us damaged via ETSY, so I would recommend people to use aluminum signs if they can as they are much more hard wearing and we found cheaper from this local supplier.
I think everyone just being relaxed and enjoying themselves, everyone commented on how well looked after they were, the staff at the venue were incredible and could not do enough for you. People were up dancing before the food has finished. there were so many courses and the fact that Nektarios got the party started with the “bouzouki” really was so so good.
A new different setting, just being abroad is nice, the weather, you get extra time in the days pre and post wedding rather than just one day which is really nice.
Go for it, traditionally if you have a wedding at home in the UK, some if not most of your guest are likely to have been to the venue so its not unique or special to them. Whereas with a wedding abroad its highly unlikely that any of your guests will have been to that venue or even country so it’s a good excuse for them to travel to a country abroad and get a holiday out it. Plus it is cheaper as usually you will have less guests and therefore you can look after them completely.
Abroad outdoor settings don’t need much decorating as they already are with he views and plants, so you save here.
Set a realist budget, but be prepared to go over slightly, it is normal, as Lisa told me everyone has their Instagram wedding then their realistic one, and ‘tbf’ Lisa helped make my Insta wedding pretty much the real thing, trust her she knows.
