In recent years we’ve noticed an increase in couples searching for more privacy for their destination wedding. Still with a desire for amazing views in a unique setting, but also a blank canvas, somewhere they can express their personalities in a wedding that truly reflects them.
With considerations for guests, couples don’t want anything too remote and easily accessible. A venue that makes the most of the outdoors and the glorious weather, but nowhere too touristy. Somewhere guests can experience the delicious traditional cuisine and maybe also inclusive of some local customs but essentially with the comfortable mod cons we’ve come to expect in a hotel wedding.

Create something unique
Villa weddings allow you to create a day completely unique to you both, one that guests will recognise and delight in, knowing that love and attention has gone into the detail. NOT forgetting the obvious convenience of staying onsite and avoiding any possible logistic issues on the day and not forgetting that you wont have to walk to far ‘ or wobble’ back at the end of the evening.
Other reasons for a villa wedding abroad are;
For some couples the idea of spending time with family and friends around the wedding day is one of the biggest reasons for a wedding abroad and most villas can accommodation at least 2 families with some of our villas allowing up to 20 people to be onsite.
It doesn’t mean you have to share all of your honeymoon with family, some just hire the villa for a few days before jetting off somewhere more private and intimate after the wedding day.

Pro’s and Con’s
Villa weddings may seem idyllic but they don’t suit everyone, here we’ve laid out the pro’s and con’s for those considering this idea to help you figure out if a villa wedding is for you……..or not.
Your Budget
Villa weddings have more logistical challenges (for suppliers) than a regular venue, as nothing is onsite. For example caterers have to bring cooking equipment to make and serve dinner, the bar team needs to bring facilities to service, chill and clear drinks/wash glasses, and depending on the location of the venue it may need special lighting, sound equipment or even a dance floor in some instances. Access can sometimes add costs on too. Suppliers may charge more if the venue is far away or difficult to access meaning more trips/visits in smaller vans/cars.
These are the reasons villa weddings are generally more expensive than hiring a ‘ready made’ venue or taverna/restaurant.
You then need to budget for the cost of the stay in the villa which could be more than a regular hotel stay, not only because Villas tend to be bigger but often more luxurious. Of course this depends if you’re willing to pay for the whole villa and guests staying there, or if you’re going to ask them to ‘chip in’ and pay for their stay (which can often be more cost effective than a hotel) .
Facilities
Not all villas are suitable for weddings, this could be due to size, shape or space of the grounds and finally toilets/changing facilities. Villa owners are unlikely to allow 80 plus people access their villa to use the kitchen/toilets etc throughout the event so typically the venue will need to have outdoor toilets/change facilities. You also need to consider cleaning staff for the facilities which would be needed throughout the event.
Insurance
Hire fees will generally include special insurances incase there are any damages at the event. Even so the villa owner may ask for an extra deposit to cover any extra damages which you‘ll get back after the event (as long as all goes to plan).
Safety first
In most cases pool access will not be allowed at the wedding. This is pretty standard for hygiene reasons and most of all safety. Especially in the case of young children. However we think this offers a special opportunity for decoration such as floating candles or petals.
Pre and post wedding parties
Some couples like the idea of a villa wedding as it means they can have pre and post wedding get togethers, however this should never be taken for granted. Any events will only be allowed with the permission of the villa owner and may include a separate hire fee or insurance for the reasons given above. However small events/BBQ’s with the villa occupants would be no problem at all and can be a great way to extend the celebrations.
