‘Thank you so much for everything you have done for us, the day was perfect, we couldn’t of asked for more’
Venue Starry Skies, Rhodes • Date 8th June 2023 • Number of Guests 31
Bethan & Jamie – bright & colourful beach wedding.
I loved working with Bethan and Jamie, both equally involved in the planning, a real team effort from the start.
The couple were so relaxed and trusting and put emphasis on their guests being happy and comfortable on the day. We absolutely adore Bethan’s incredible wedding shoes! These are possibly our first coloured wedding shoes worn by a TBC bride!
With how fabulous they are we hope they are not the last!
And hey! who said you can’t have 2 pairs of shoes! A ‘stellar’ pair of heels and comfortable but equally fabulous flats to party into the small hours!
We hope you enjoy reading this info packed wedding story as much as we enjoyed planning it and enjoy perusing these fabulous photos, filled with lots of ideas you could potentially incorporate into your own wedding abroad.
Why did you decided to get married abroad and in Rhodes?
We always wanted an abroad wedding, a UK wedding was never an option for us. Greece is somewhere we have visited many time both together and separately so we looked at few different options on different islands. When we saw the venues in Rhodes, we knew the island would offer us the type of wedding we wanted.
How many guests joined you?
We invited around 40 people in total, but due to a number of reasons some people couldn’t make the trip so we had 33 people (including us) who attended. We always wanted to keep the wedding as small and intimate as possible.
Tell us about your gorgeous wedding dress
My dress was a Rosa Clara. I got it from Gardenia Bridal in Usk . A friend of mine is the owner of the shop and was very accommodating when helping me find the perfect dress, it only took us one visit! The whole team at Gardenia Bridal are amazing, they made the process so easy and stress free.
And your accessories?
My Shoes for the day were just as important as the dress so I ended up having 2 options!
My first shoes of the day were Manolo Blahnik. They were a 30th Birthday treat to myself during a trip to Paris last summer. These were my must haves for the wedding. Because I knew the heels may be a bit uncomfortable for a full day on the sand I also treated myself to a pair of Sophia Webster Wifey for Lifey flats. The perfect fit for the occasion, that will definitely make an appearance on the honeymoon.
My Jewellery was something that I got during our previous visit to Rhodes a year before the wedding from a small shop in Rhodes Old Town.
And tell us about Jamie’s outfit
Jamie always wanted to keep the groom and groomsmen outfits casual due to the heat. The shirts, shorts and bracers were from Next. His shoes were custom Groom Converse, while the groomsmen had plain white Converse, Jamie wanted this as he likes the overall look and tied in well with the casual style we wanted. The Bow Tie that Jamie wore was a bargain we stumbled across online on Dobell. He wanted to find something with a pattern that fitted the wedding theme but allowed him to stand out from the other groomsmen. After a lot of searching and multiple orders we managed to find the right colour for the groomsmen’s bow ties on Amazon.
We love the bridesmaids dresses.
The Bridesmaid Dresses wear green, I was very set on the colours from the beginning. After a lot of searching in bridal shops I couldn’t find anything suitable as everything was very formal. I finally found the dresses on Ted Baker.
Did you have a theme?
We didn’t really have an overall theme for the wedding, we just wanted it to be very casual and relaxed for all involved. I was set from the beginning on having green for the bridesmaids and then used this as a starting point. The brown colour for the grooms men’s shorts and braces paired well with the green. As we are not massively into flowers we wasn’t very picky about what actual flowers we had. All we asked was that they were bright and colourful so that they would pop against the green. We showed Lisa a few pictures we had found online and what we got on the day were perfect!
The decorative items we brought with us were the Funko Style cake toppers, the Guest book and Guest book table sign, and the name sign for the top table. These were all custom made from Etsy or Amazon. We also brought some small jars to place candles in which we decorated ourselves. All our decorations were brought with us in ours or family members luggage
Tell us your best memory from the wedding day.
It’s difficult to pick just one best memory from the day as it was all so perfect. Seeing the venue for the first time all setup liked we’d planned and imagined, with the stunning Acropolis backdrop was breathtakingly beautiful. For us to see each other at the alter for the first time in our wedding outfits was also very special to us, but the whole day will be something that we will never forget and will live with us forever.
What do you think makes a wedding abroad stand out from a wedding in the UK?
Taking the cost out of the equation, we believe there are massive benefits to having an abroad wedding. Getting to spend a holiday with all our close family and friends who wanted to be there for us was so much better than just getting one day with them like we would in the UK. I believe that organising a wedding in the UK would be a lot of hard work and quite stressful, whereas the help provided by Lisa and her team made our planning process so easy and stress free.
The biggest plus over all with getting married abroad is the weather, even with a very wet week before our arrival, we were confident that we would have sun! I’m sure if we had been in the UK we would of been digging out the umbrellas just in case.
The beautiful venues that are on offer also make an abroad wedding special, I don’t think we would ever have found somewhere in the UK as beautiful as the Lindos location we chose.
What advise would you give to future couples marrying abroad?
The best advise we could give would be to trust the planner, they know exactly what is best. It’s important to enjoy the planning as much as the day itself as it all goes by so quickly! Make sure you have the wedding that you want, Lisa can help with anything. Get the groom involved aswell, it’s good to bounce ideas off each other and get one and others views.
Make sure you look into the areas and hotels that you and your guests will be staying, having everyone enjoy their holiday in a good resort and nice hotel was very important to us but also allowed us to make great memories with everyone who made the trip!
We can’t thank Lisa enough for making our big day everything we dreamt it would be! ♥️
