‘So many of our guests said they had the time of their lives and had never seen a wedding so beautiful’
Venue Le Ciel, Santorini • Date 1st of June 2017 • Number of Guests 50 • Budget £££
Why did you choose to get married in Santorini, at Le Ciel in particular?
Santorini has always been a destination that we have both wanted to visit, so when we came across The Bridal Consultant and spoke to Lisa herself, we knew that Santorini was the one. It was a risk, with us not being there before, but we had 100% trust in Lisa from the start. We have been to a lot of other Greek Islands, and we also met in Greece, so it does hold a special place in our hearts.
Le Ciel itself, WOW. It was everything we envisioned and more. It was such a beautiful venue.
How long in advance did you book your wedding?
We actually only got engaged in the December, and married on the 1st of June. I was a little worried about being able to sort everything in just 5 months, but Lisa and her team made everything so easy.
How many guests did you invite to your wedding and how many accepted and attended?
We invited mainly close family and friends as we just wanted a small intimate wedding. We had 50 guests, which really, pleasantly surprised us. We didn’t expect that many people to be able to come in the short space of time we had.
Your dress is stunning! What make was this and how long did it take you to find the one?
My dress was by Pronovias. I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it.
It didn’t take me long to find, it was the first shop I went in and the third dress I tried on! I always wanted quite a plain dress but with a really detailed back and long train. I knew it was the one as soon as I looked in the mirror and my mum and Maid of Honour started crying.
What about your shoes and accessories?
My shoes were from Forever Unique which were a gift from my mum, they were so comfy and really easy to walk in, which was really important to me with wearing a tight dress!
I wanted very minimal accessories, so I just had some beautiful Swarovski earrings, which were a gift from my Maid Of Honour and a Swarovski bracelet which was a gift from one of my bridesmaids. They complimented my dress beautifully.
John looks great in his attire! Where did you purchase this?
We searched high and low for the perfect suit. We knew we wanted a light blue, modern suit with a bow tie. We actually ended up getting them from Topman!! The fit was lovely and the colour was just gorgeous against the stunning Santorini backdrop.
Your bridesmaids dresses, where were they from and why did you choose this style?
When I chose the bridesmaid dresses, I wanted something neutral and something that would never date. It was really important to me that my bridesmaids felt really good and comfortable in their dresses. I found these on ASOS and they were a beautiful pale pink. I just love the one shoulder style and the fact they look rather Grecian!
We love your bouquet! What flowers did you choose and why?
My bouquet was just out of this world beautiful. I chose a mix of my favourite flowers; Peonies, Roses & Hydrangeas. I wanted them all cream and white. They were just perfect. I wanted something different from the normal smaller bouquet for my bridesmaids, so they had the same flowers but as a corsage, which looked gorgeous against their dresses.
What was your wedding theme?
My theme was simplicity. I wanted everything white and classic. I just had a touch of pale pink in the bridesmaids dresses and the groom/groomsmen’s bow ties. I wanted to look back at photos and our wedding still look classy. Personally I don’t think you need anything too over the top, as the venue and the backdrop are just so beautiful.
Tell us about the smaller details that you added to personalise your white wedding in Santorini.
Our wedding cake was gorgeous! We decided on 2 tiers with a flower arrangement on the top, it was beautiful and so tasty!
For our Wedding meal we decided on the traditional Greek dishes to give our guests a real taste of Greece (plus we absolutely love Greek food!).
We had a DJ for the evening, who played all of our favourite songs and got everyone on the dance floor!
How did you find the planning experience from booking to the big day?
The planning experience for me was really easy. This is mainly because of Lisa and her team. Whenever I needed any questions answering, no matter how daft, Lisa was always just an email or phone call away. Not once did I feel stressed and Bridezilla never made an appearance!! Once we got to Santorini, we had a pre wedding meeting with the in resort planners who were fantastic. They went through all the final details with us and took us around the venue.
I cannot thank Lisa and her team enough for creating our dream day. It truly was perfect!
Do you have a favourite memory from the day?
For me, my best memory is having my mum walk me down the aisle. My mum has been battling cancer for over 3 years and we weren’t sure if she was going to make it to our big day. I am so thankful that we had that moment together. Something that will stay with me forever.
Was your wedding on budget or over budget?
We didn’t really have a specific budget, we had an idea in mind how much it was going to cost but we did end up going quite a bit over what we thought. It was all so worth it though, the day was perfect.
What do you think makes a wedding abroad stand out from a wedding in the UK?
Getting married abroad is something that John and I have always spoke about. It was never really an option for us to get married in the UK. I think you get so much more out of getting married abroad. The views were breathtaking and unlike the UK you are pretty much guaranteed amazing weather!
We were in Santorini for 2 weeks in total and it didn’t feel like it was all over after the wedding! We had celebrations with all our friends and family before and after the wedding.
Santorini itself is beyond words. It is such a beautiful Island. So many of our guests said they had the time of their lives and had never seen a wedding so beautiful!
