‘The whole day was incredible but getting married at Cameo Island on a beautiful sunny day with all of our family and friends was perfect.’
Venue Cameo Island & Agios Sosits Zakynthos Zante • Date 20th of May 2019 • Number of Guests 25 • Budget £
Why did you choose to get married in Zakynthos and in particular have a wedding on Cameo Island?
We decided we wanted to get married abroad and Greece seemed like the perfect choice as we got engaged in Rhodes. Whilst looking at venues we saw a video of a wedding at Cameo Island and we knew from that moment that would be our wedding venue.
How long in advance did you book your wedding?
We booked our May 2019 wedding in January 2018, so 16 months in advance.
How many guests did you invite to your wedding and how many accepted and attended?
We had 25 guests, we were fortunate that everyone we wanted to be there was able to attend.
Tell us about your gorgeous dress
My dress was Kenneth Winston. I went to a wedding fair and saw the dress on a flyer for a bridal shop. After trying it on in ivory I knew the almond colour was for me. I bought it two weeks after booking the wedding.
And your accessories?
My earrings were handmade from the US via Etsy (Rustic Gem), it was the only jewellery I wore other than my engagement ring as my dress was so detailed. My shoes were rose gold wedges from Cotton Traders, I went for comfort!
Tell us about the grooms suit.
My trousers and waistcoat were purchased from Next, along with the shoes.
Tell us about your bouquet
My bouquet was artificial from The Floral Studio. I wanted to be able to keep it after the wedding. It was a mixture of nude and ivory roses, spray roses, blue thistles and silver brunia knapps
Did you have a wedding theme?
We didn’t really have a theme, we just wanted it to be natural to soak up the beautiful scenery. We wanted a relaxed wedding where everyone could enjoy the Greek culture.
Can you tell us about the smaller details you used to personalise your wedding on Cameo Island
We went with a traditional Greek wedding cake with two tiers, chocolate and lemon. Our favours were wooden fans, mini bottles of Ouzo and sugared almonds. Our menu was traditional Greek canapes followed by a meze bbq.
How did you find the planning experience from booking to the big day?
The planning process was simple, we were guided by Sasha and Matt every step of the way. They were well organised, knowledgeable and nothing was too much trouble. When we arrived in Zakynthos, the local team were amazing, calming and reassured us that our wedding was in the best hands.
What’s your best memory from the day?
The whole day was incredible but getting married at Cameo Island on a beautiful sunny day with all of our family and friends was perfect.
What do you think makes a wedding abroad stand out from a wedding in the UK?
There are so many reasons why we loved getting married abroad but the highlight would be being on holiday with all of our friends and family, spending time together before and after the wedding. Being able to enjoy the sun, sea and culture of another country. Having one point of contact to organise the whole day was beneficial, unlike a wedding in the UK.
What advice would you give to future brides and grooms who are getting married abroad?
Make sure you carefully research before booking your wedding but trust your wedding planner, they are the experts!
